A family-friendly trail that follows Little Zigzag River to Little Zigzag Falls. This gentle, uphill trail is especially enjoyable on warm summer days as it stays cool in this small canyon.
This trail is a two-mile hike from the plaza/Mirror Lake Trailhead to Mirror Lake. Hiking the loop around the lake is an additional 0.4 miles. The trail accesses Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness. A big draw for this trail is the view of Mt. Hood from a small backcountry lake.
Against the majestic Mount Hood and surrounded by a sea of pine trees is the quiet Trillium Lake, you can camp overnight at the campground, go kayaking and fishing, and hike along the multiple trails available in the area—all while enjoying stunning views of Mount Hood.
Little Crater Lake is a cold, crystal clear, spring-fed pond - which can be enjoyed by viewing or picnicking. Swimming is prohibited protect the lake's sensitive ecological and geological features.
At Timothy Lake, you can enjoy camping, hiking, fishing, picnicking, paddling, mountain biking and horseback riding – all with a spectacular view of Mt. Hood. Around the 1,500-acre lake, nine campgrounds provide over 250 campsites, and there are several picnic areas along the shore.
A waterfall as magnificent and memorable as any in the country is located just a 30- minute drive outside of Portland or a ~1 hour drive from Government Camp. Visiting Multnomah Falls, a 611-foot-tall roaring, awe-inspiring cascade of icy water, lets you experience the power and beauty of nature up close and with ease. From the parking area off of I-84, a 5-minute walk is all that separates you from the exhilarating spray at the base of the falls.
Roughly a ~50 minute drive from Government Camp, Hood River is home to some of the Pacific Northwest's best wineries, hiking, fishing, and breweries.
A unique rural farm experience awaits you in the beautiful Hood River Valley, where you will encounter 30 on-the-farm fruit stands, wineries, breweries, cideries, and fields of flowers.
